Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are both based on PS1 games that came out over two decades agol but they’re also both going after the same concept - modernizing blockbuster games of the past to bring them forward into the future (and to bank on nostalgia).
Interestingly, those games won’t be the only titles that are taking a dip into the past, with Square Enix remaking two games for the month of April (including FF7 Remake). Although it’s only confirmed to have a spring 2020 release window, Minecraft Dungeons could also potentially be released sometime in April. Here are all of April’s biggest games.

Resident Evil 3 - April 3
A top contender for the most anticipated game of April 2020, Resident Evil 3 is due for release on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It’s part of Capcom’s continuing streak of putting out big, successful games (which really started with its return to form with Resident Evil 7 in 2017). Just as the original Resident Evil 3 was a sequel to the original Resident Evil 2, this year’s RE 3 only exists because of the massive critical and commercial success of the RE 2 remake in 2019, both of which share and build off of the same revolutionary engine - the RE Engine.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake - April 10
For people looking forward to both Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, there is only a week separating the two so it’s probably best to plan some gaming schedules ahead. While not a remake of the entire original PS1 game, FF7 Remake is apparently going to be a fully featured, regular-length action RPG. With a demo for the game currently available on PS4, fans could at least get a sample of the game before deciding to hop back on the train heading into Midgar, which should prove useful to those initially put off by the deviation from traditional turn-based combat.
Gears Tactics - April 28
Another spin-off of the Gears of War franchise, Gears Tactics takes the blockbuster third-person action shooter and switches up its combat to fit the turn-based strategy genre. Boasting a campaign that lasts over 40 hours, Gears Tactics can appeal to players of XCOM, StarCraft, or any other popular strategy game (even Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle for the Switch). Ever since Microsoft’s acquisition of the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games in 2014, it seems the people in charge don’t mind a little experimentation with it here and then, even putting out Gears Pop in 2019 (alongside the traditional Gears 5).
Every Other Game Coming Out in April 2020
There are a bunch of other smaller games coming out in April such as Moving Out, Totally Reliable Delivery Service, and Space Engineers. The other remake that Square Enix is putting out is Trials of Mana, which is a remake of the 1995 Super Famicom game Seiken Densetsu 3 (which was made by Square before its merger with Enix in 2003). Otherwise, it seems to be a fairly filled month, with over a dozen games coming out. Here is every other game releasing in April.
